Discrete Trial Training (DTT)

The Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT) program is one of the four programs that are offered at Behavioral Learning Center, Inc. (BLC). This DTT program is an intensive, one to one intervention that focuses on teaching functional skills in a specified and structured environment. The goal is to break down complex skills or tasks into smaller and more manageable components so that the child is better able to learn and master the skills. Once skills are mastered, the behavior intervention team will target generalization and maintenance in order for these skills to maintain across various people and settings.

Discrete Trial Training (DTT)

The DTT Program is based on principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and uses the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP) as a curriculum guide. VB-MAPP provides a representative sample of a child’s existing verbal and related skills and helps in providing each child with a specific curriculum which addresses their individual needs. In addition to targeting each child’s specific skill deficits, the BLC behavior intervention team also works on decreasing excess maladaptive behaviors. The team not only works on reducing or eliminating the maladaptive behaviors but also on teaching functional and more socially appropriate replacement behaviors.

Each child that receives the DTT program is assigned an intervention team. This team includes not only behavioral tutors that work directly with the child, but also a program manager who supervises the tutors, educates and supports the parents, and manages and guides the child’s individual curriculum. Supervision is provided to each program manager by the senior clinical team.
